National Liberal ClubFundraiser: Kremlin Kleptocrats and how to counter them - An Evening with Bill Browder
Bill Browder and Edward Lucas have been allies for more than a decade, alerting the West to the danger of foreign corruption and its enablers.
Bill is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee human rights campaigner. Once the leading western investor in Russia, he has exposed the greed and brutality at the heart of Vladimir Putin’s regime. He now campaigns against illicit finance — dirty money — and against authoritarian regimes' abuse of the international legal system, notably their intimidation of critics through Interpol Red Notices.
Bill has pioneered Magnitsky sanctions, named after murdered Russian whistle-blower Sergei Magnitsky, which are now in place in the US, Canada, Britain and other jurisdictions.
His prize-winning book "Red Notice" is on sale.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0qtSnjvigI

National Liberal Club in London, United KingdomFundraiser - An Evening with Vince Cable
Vince Cable and Edward Lucas, both leaders within their respective fields, come together to provide gripping, insightful and accessible insights into UK-China relations.
The exposure of an alleged Chinese agent at Westminster has highlighted the controversy over the country's relationship with the People's Republic.
The Cities of London & Westminster Liberal Democrats are pleased to host this topical discussion on a vital issue that touches foreign and domestic policy.
Former Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable is the author of The China Conundrum: Engagement or Conflict, a book that argues against a US-led “cold war” with China.
"Snubbing modern China will do nothing for human rights, domestic security or global stability. We should be committed to working with and influencing this rising superpower – without illusions, but also without fear.” he says.
Edward Lucas, prospective parliamentary candidate for the Cities of London & Westminster, is the former editor of the China Influence Monitor, a weekly newsletter that exposes and counters Chinese Communist Party influence in the West.
He coined the phrase “Hegemonic Discourse Control” to describe Chinese Communist Party attempts to silence critics and control discussion. “Our media, academic and political freedom are at risk” he argues.
So who’s wrong? Are the “China-hawks” creating an unnecessary and fruitless confrontation? Or are the “China-doves” paving the way to the West’s eclipse by a totalitarian superpower?
Come and decide for yourself, following an evening of simmering discussion.
There will be a signing and copies of The China Conundrum: Engagement or Conflict will be on sale at the event.
