In his Times column this week, Edward demanded action on the 90,000 properties in Britain that are owned by shell companies and trusts whose real owner is unclear.
Edward is demanding that these properties be auctioned off for public benefit if the real owners cannot or will not come forward.
He’s asked Westminster Council whether it keeps track of how many properties in Westminster have unknown owners..
“More than £100 billion a year in dirty money sloshes through our financial system” says Edward. “While law-abiding citizens struggle to pay their bills and taxes, it’s high time we got to grips with the unaccountable mega-rich."
